Q: What tasks are robotics used for in medical manufacturing systems?
A: Robots are a good solution for tasks that require precise movement or positioning of a tool to multiple locations. A couple good examples would be loading or unloading parts from trays or dispensing a solution into a 96 well microtiter plate. Robotic arms are also well-sealed so they offer an advantage over other motion systems when there is a cleanliness requirement, or if the operating environment is corrosive. Robots can be easily reprogrammed, so if flexibility is a requirement, an engineer may specify a robot to allow for easier system modifications and upgrades in the future.
